The Pennsylvania Turnpike is giving drivers a peek at what its interchanges will look like as toll booths are demolished for Open Road Tolling.
Demolition of toll plazas is underway on the eastern portion of the Turnpike with the start of ORT.
“With the removal of physical barriers and obstacles within the roadway, the renderings include improved sight lines and a much smaller environmental footprint,” according to a news release.
The multi-lane toll plazas with signs, reflectors, booths and massive structures are being removed to reveal fewer visibility issues and literally more scenery.
The demolitions are underway east of the Reading Interchange and on the Northeast Extension.
