CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Investigators are piecing together a shooting at an apartment complex near SouthPark Mall that left a woman dead.

It happened shortly before 7 a.m. Monday morning off Barclay Downs Drive. People who live at the Hazel Apartments describe the area as quiet and told Queen City News they generally feel very safe here.

"I see SouthPark as a very safe place," said Amy Koury, a resident. "In the time I've lived here, I've felt very comfortable. It was definitely a huge shock, especially coming from my own building."

It’s why they were so surprised when they came outside Monday morning and saw crime scene tape and police cars in the parking deck.

"I woke up to walk my dog," said William Phillips, a resident. "I came out and there were like eight police cars
