LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — Students and faculty at Davies Career & Technical High School were evacuated last Friday following a power surge, according to a school spokesperson.

The external surge caused a power outage in the building around 10:30 a.m., prompting the school's director to contact the Lincoln Fire Department.

Families were notified soon after, and transportation arrangements for an early dismissal were underway by about 11:15 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, the school's generator was working but soon malfunctioned and caught fire. The fire chief, who was in the generator room, activated the fire alarm around 11:25 a.m. to ensure a safe evacuation, the spokesperson said.
