ROCKFORD, Ill. — The new Chief of the Rockford Fire Department was announced on Tuesday.

In a press conference on Oct. 14, the Rockford Fire Department announced that Rebecca Tyo will be the next Fire Chief. Tyo has 16 years of experience working with RFD and is a Rockford native.

Chief Tyo joined RFD in 2009 and has worked in many roles. She served as a firefighter, paramedic, lieutenant, Fire Training Coordinator, and Captain.

Chief Tyo holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree in Kinesiology from Western Illinois University, according to her LinkedIn.

Mayor Tom McNamara said he supported the appointment.
