Polaris, the Minnesota commercial and military vehicle company, announced Monday it will sell its majority stake in Indian Motorcycle to a Los Angeles private equity firm.

Under the deal, Polaris will separate the motorcycle company from its portfolio and agree to sell a majority stake to Carolwood LP, the company said in a statement. In addition, 900 employees will transition to the standalone company.

Manufacturing facilities in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Monticello, Minn., and an industrial design and technology center in Burgdorf, Switzerland, will also transition to the new company.
