DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Mother Nature continues to batter the Outer Banks, with Highway 12 closed once again.
The coastal highway in Dare County is closed in both directions between the Marc Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe.
Heavy surf hours before high tide this afternoon caused ocean overwash, closing the highway.
DOT crews are now working to repair the dune so the highway can be reopened. They estimate Highway 12 will be closed until noon tomorrow.
The next high tide in Rodanthe is at 5:35 p.m.
