CLEVELAND, Ohio — Rolling Stone magazine on Monday asked a federal judge to dismiss a defamation lawsuit filed by the widow of former Raspberries frontman Eric Carmen, arguing that a January article about Carmen’s family was “well-sourced and balanced.”

Kevin Shook, an attorney for the magazine’s parent company Penske Media Corp., wrote that the article by journalist Andy Greene is protected by free speech and does not meet the legal standards for defamation or false light.
