MASSILLON, Ohio (WOIO) - The possibility of turning two major intersections into roundabouts has caused quite the controversy in Massillon.
The interchanges in question are: Lake Avenue at 1st Street, Northeast, and Lake Avenue at State Route 21. The area is heavily traveled because it’s right next to the towpath, restaurants, and a bike shop.
Massillon Mayor Jamie Slutz says something has to be done to prevent the crashes that often happen at the busy crossings. Which is why he believes installing roundabouts would solve the issue.
“It’s been a problem for at least 40 years. With more people driving today, it’s becoming more and more of a problem, and it’s something we have to get out in front of,” said Slutz.
