BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - The North Dakota Highway Patrol will now be patrolling with a new Taser.
Last month, the agency made the switch from Axon’s X26P Taser to the new Taser 10. The NDHP received $870,000 to acquire new Tasers this past legislative session.
“The X26P, that had a distance of 25 feet. When you think about it, our reactionary gap in over a course of six seconds, 25 feet you can cover very quickly,” said Lt. Evan Savageau. “This now gives us a 45-foot range, and what that’ll do for us is just allows for more time to de-escalate a situation.”
The NDHP is using virtual reality to train officers on the new Taser.
