Mayoral candidate Brian Thiessen and his Calgary Party are taking on Calgary’s most powerful politician.
Not incumbent Mayor Jyoti Gondek. They’re talking about Danielle Smith, who imposes her will on the city like no premier before her.
“If she wants to run Calgary, she should resign her seat, move to Calgary and run for mayor,” Thiessen says in an interview.
“Otherwise, she should respect the jurisdiction of the municipal government.”
Short form: Butt out.
“Calgary city council needs to answer only to Calgarians, but she changed the rules so she could get one of her conservative lackeys elected as mayor, and she wants someone who will report directly to her,” he continues.
