Katrina Zack, Northern Gateway Local 43 president, said the walk was a joint effort of Catholic teachers in Whitecourt, Edson and Slave Lake and Northern Gateway Public Schools teachers. Article content

“The Walk for Public Education is to make people aware of … the issues facing teachers and their classrooms,” Zack told the Whitecourt Star .
The walk began at the Carbonex Contractors Centre, the local curling rink.
Many of the participants wore red, which Zack explained was “red for ed” to “make sure we’re seen and visible.”
