FALMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) — The United States Coast Guard rescued a man from the ocean near Woods Hole Monday afternoon, according to Falmouth Fire and Rescue.
The man was first spotted in the water by a passenger aboard a Steamship Authority Ferry that happened to be passing by.
Those on the ferry attempted to rescue the man by throwing life rings into the water, but were unsuccessful because of the storm that was moving through.
The Coast Guard deployed a helicopter to search for the man, who was eventually spotted near Nobska Point and hoisted to safety by a rescue swimmer.
The man was brought to Falmouth Hospital and treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
It's unclear how the men, who has not been identified, wound up in the water at this time.
