GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies have released new video and details surrounding the fatal shooting of an armed suspect last month in the Holly Heights neighborhood.

Sheriff’s officials said Darian Holmes, 55, was waving a gun around in the Holly Heights area on Sept. 13. Deputies said they spent 40 minutes talking to Holmes before he pointed the weapon at them.

Deputies opened fire, striking Holmes. He later died at the hospital.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
