JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island's first Wingstop has officially opened its doors.

The popular chicken wing chain's new restaurant off Atwood Avenue in Johnston celebrated its grand opening Tuesday.

The restaurant is located within a shopping plaza that also includes Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Verizon and Lavis Nails & Spa.

Wingstop is primarily known for its classic and boneless chicken wings that come in a variety of sauces and dry rubs, including garlic parmesan, lemon pepper, mango habanero, spicy Korean Q and Hawaiian.

The next closest Wingstop locations to Rhode Island are in Brockton, Massachusetts, and at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
