Triple-zero operations in Victoria suffered a major power outage overnight, forcing dispatchers to co-ordinate emergency response operations using pen and paper.

The major power outage at Triple Zero Victoria's Burwood dispatch centre knocked out the computer-aided dispatch system about 12.30am on Wednesday morning, with the software also failing at Williams Landing and Ballarat.

A spokesman for the emergency service operator said dispatchers were still able to take calls, with backup measures used to minimise the impact of the outage.

"Triple-0 calls from the community continued to be taken throughout a power issue that caused an unplanned outage of (the) computer-aided dispatch system (CAD) at 12:30am," the spokesman said.
