NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) -- Illinois State University Police Department is recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month by wearing purple ribbons on their uniforms.
The department posted on Facebook last Thursday, saying people may see their officers wearing purple ribbons, showing their solidarity for domestic violence victims.
"We're just showing our support and our allyship with victims, and then hopefully it shows that the police department really does care about them. We really do want to make the world a better place. We're hoping that that might show our support and bring some victims coming forward even after years," said Jessika Jones, from the Illinois State Police Department.
