APACHE JUNCTION, AZ (AZFamily) — An injured motorcyclist is in the hospital after being rescued from an embankment off the state Route 88 northeast of Apache Junction on Tuesday evening.
It happened on the westbound side of the highway about 3 miles northeast of Lost Dutchman State Park and 5 miles south of Canyon Lake.
The motorcycle rider went off the highway, also known as Apache Trail, and crashed dozens of feet down an embankment. The Department of Public Safety confirmed its helicopter was used to get the rider out of the desert area.
It’s unclear what the rider’s condition is.
The westbound side of SR 88 is shut down.
This is just the latest in a series of crashes that have plagued the historic highway .
