COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The NBA announced Tuesday that Erik Spoelstra , a Portland native and University of Portland alum, has been named head coach of the USA Basketball Men's National Team through 2028. Spoelstra, the head coach of the Miami Heat, was selected by USA Basketball's Men's National Team managing director Grant Hill and approved by the USA Basketball Board of Directors.

Known as "Coach Spo," Spoelstra grew up in Portland, Oregon, and graduated from Jesuit High School in 1988. His high school teachers recognized his potential early, noting it was evident he would aspire to play or coach at a high level.
