SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The local Jewish community in Springfield celebrated the release of hostages in the Middle East at Temple Beth El on Tuesday.

The celebration comes as Hamas released all 20 living Israeli hostages, marking a significant moment for the community, which has been closely following the developments since the October 7, 2023, attack.

"The thing I want to say to you is between October 7th, 2023, and now, I didn't breathe as fully as I did when I saw these last 20 hostages come home," said Rabbi Amy Wallk of Temple Beth El.

A sign in front of the synagogue had been marking the days since the October 7th attack, totaling 738 days until the hostages' release. The sign now reads 'HOME,' symbolizing the community's relief and joy.
