HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – It has been about three months since Huntington started up their new downtown police unit near Pullman Square.

Since the new unit was created, police have handed out nearly 300 citations and reports, along with 10 felony arrests within the last three months in that area.

Although the new unit offers daily police presence throughout downtown, Mayor Patrick Farrell said there is no time frame on when they will move officers into the precinct building in Pullman.

Meanwhile, a project to make neighborhoods safer in Huntington is expanding into some new areas.

Farrell said during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting that Project Lights On will now shift into the Fairfield neighborhood. The project aims to replace faulty streetlights through community reporting.
