Scottish star Brian Cox opened up about how he felt he had failed after his first marriage fell apart at the young age of 21.

The Succession actor, now 79, revealed the relationship was a mistake and how he had to endure an extremely difficult childhood following the death of his father on a podcast.

Cox, who married first wife Lilian Monroe-Carr in 1966, said: "The only time I failed, I think, is probably in my private relationships.

"Certainly with my first marriage, it was not easy, and I think that's where I kind of fell down.

"Professionally, everything was in good nick, but I got married when I was very young.
