NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Crime rates in North Charleston continued their downward trend through September, with police reporting an 11% decrease in overall violent crimes.
The latest data shows significant reductions across multiple crime categories. Homicides dropped 38%, while aggravated assaults decreased 9%.
Robberies dropped 15% while business robberies fell 72% and robberies of persons fell 7%.
North Charleston Crime Prevention Officer Pfc. Josh Silva said there is an overall decrease in non-violent crimes of 10%. Burglaries fell 6% compared to the same period last year, he said.
Vehicle thefts fell 33%, the report states.
Police officials said the new data underscores the success of their crime prevention initiatives and collaborative community partnerships.
