PAINESDALE — The Houghton Gremlins volleyball team needed a fifth set to earn a victory over the host Jeffers Jets Monday.
The teams split the first two sets with the Gremlins winning 25-21 before the Jets stormed back with a 26-24 win. The third set went the Gremlins’ way at 25-17, but the Jets responded with a 25-18 win, setting up the tiebreaker. In that set, the Gremlins emerged with the win, 15-10.
Claire Johnson paced the Gremlins’ offense with 14 kills. Lydia Williams added 11 kills, 17 assists, 19 digs, and three blocks.
Emmy Pietila was the leader defensively 40 digs and four aces.
For the Jets, Mia Nordstrom led the way with 16 kills and six aces. Aili Kinnunen had five kills.
Kylee Kangas racked up 12 assists. Aya Keteri had 16 digs.
