London will be allowing some residents to put pet waste in their green bins as part of a new pilot project, but not human waste in the form of diapers or menstrual products.
Politicians voted 12-3 during Tuesday’s council meeting to shoot down a suggestion from Ward 10 Coun. Paul Van Meerbergen to explore allowing those items in the green bin, as part of an update on the rollout of London’s long-delayed curbside compost program and biweekly garbage pickup.
“We all know that at various parts of life, diapers are a commodity that are very necessary, and how we deal with that and dispose of it currently I don’t think meets the test,” Van Meerbergen said. “I get literally dozens of complaints about why diapers are not part of the green bin program, as a means to have weekly pickup.”
