A British holidaymaker claims he was "chased up the street" after attempting to ride a plastic elephant in a holiday resort.

Laura and Ste Knowles were on holiday in Tenerife when the mishap occurred. Laura, 42, dared Ste, 44, to climb on top of the brightly coloured yellow elephant outside a shop for a photo.

The couple admitted they had drank “a few champagne cocktails”, and the challenge quickly turned into a disaster when Ste lost his balance and toppled forwards, sending both him and the elephant crashing to the ground.

Laura said that the fall angered the shop owner, who "chased" them up the street.

The couple, from St Helens, had been strolling along the Veronicas strip in Playa de las Américas, Tenerife, Spain, when they stumbled upon the plastic animal. View
