The clash came amid the ongoing political row over the collapse of the case against two men accused of spying on the UK for China.
The Tories have accused the government of deliberately failing to give the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) the evidence it requested so as to avoid damaging Britain’s relationship with Beijing.
But Downing Street has instead blamed the last Conservative government for failing to officially classify China as a “threat” to the UK.
