(WFRV) - October 15 marks National White Cane Safety Day, a day to celebrate independence and mobility for individuals with vision loss throughout both Wisconsin and the country.
Officials say the Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Act was signed in 2010 and is designed to ensure that those who have visual impairments are protected when crossing the street while also helping to avoid pedestrian crashes.
According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin's 'White Cane Law' requires drivers to stop 10 or more feet from any pedestrian seen using white canes or service dogs.
Locally in Green Bay, Mayor Eric Genrich presented a proclamation recognizing the important day to a volunteer with the Wisconsin Council of the Blind & Visually Impaired, whom officials state helped make the recognition pos
