A Weld County Sheriff’s Office deputy was sent to the hospital overnight after a semitrailer struck the deputy’s vehicle while it was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 25 near Frederick.

Just before 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, the deputy was parked on the southbound shoulder waiting for a tow after a DUI arrest when the semi hit the deputy’s vehicle, according to a Colorado State Patrol news release.

The extent of the deputy’s injuries was unknown, the state patrol said. The truck driver did not report any injuries, according to the state patrol.

After the crash, the semitrailer ran off the road into a ditch between I-25 and Frontage Road. The Colorado State Patrol Hazmat Unit responded to a fuel leak from the crash, according to the news release.
