HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) - Researchers say with the U.S. government experiencing a shutdown, the personal finance company WalletHub released its report on the "States Most and Least Affected by the 2025 Government Shutdown" to, as WalletHub puts it, add some hard data to all the rhetoric. Indiana ranked well on that list.

WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia in terms of five key metrics, ranging from each state’s share of federal jobs to federal contract dollars per capita to the share of families receiving food stamps.

Indiana ranked among the states least affected by the government shutdown, coming in at rank 49. This trend was shared among other red states, compared to blue states, which both types of states ranking 26.97 and 24.50, respectively, on average. The
