FREDONIA, N.Y. — A second municipality in Chautauqua County is in danger of running out of water.
On Wednesday, the Village of Fredonia issued a water conservation order, urging residents to restrict water use because of low water levels in the reservoir. The directive comes less than a day after the Town of Ripley declared a state of emergency due to low water levels in its reservoir.
Fredonia's Emergency Manager Josh Myers called this a "serious situation," saying, “Our reservoir levels are dropping faster than we’ve seen in recent years, and without immediate action from the entire community, we risk not being able to meet the Village’s water demands.”
The village blames the lack of rainfall, warning that the reservoir is now in extreme danger of reaching a critically low point.
