LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Louisville Fire Department has promoted 22 individuals on with their positions ranking from supporting staff all the way to Colonel. All of them share the heart to serve the community, but for some that dedication is passed down from generation to generation.

Col. Bobby Cooper calls working for LFD a privilege and honor. He’s worked for the department for two decades and served in almost every way he can. He’s also the first in his family to become a firefighter.

“From Firefighter to Sergeant to Captain to Battalion Chief to Lt. Colonel to now, Colonel and Executive Assistant Chief. So, it has been a lot, it’s been an incredible career,” Cooper said.

Since its formation in 1858, the Louisville Fire Department is the third oldest professional fire department
