BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Louisiana high school students will soon see less state testing.
According to the state’s Department of Education, the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) passed a policy on Oct.15 to reduce the number of high school state assessments from six to four.
To achieve this, officials explained that Louisiana high schools will transition to a comprehensive exam model for English language arts (ELA) and math. This policy change will reportedly begin with students entering the ninth grade in the 2026-2027 school year.
Officials said Louisiana students are currently required to take a total of six state assessments in high school: two in ELA (English I and II), two in math (Algebra I and geometry), one in science (biology), and one in social stu
