BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Domestic violence victims in East Baton Rouge Parish can now file for protective orders at any public library in the parish, expanding access beyond courthouse hours through a new collaboration launched during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“A person that’s going through domestic violence can’t just take it for granted. They’ve got to figure it out,” said State Rep. C. Denise Marcelle. “They’ve got to figure out, what’s my next step? What’s my next move? Where am I going to sleep? How am I going to eat? What am I going to do with my kids? And so this alleviates a lot of those questions.”

Marcelle was involved in creating the domestic violence courts and, as a domestic violence survivor herself, understands the challenges victims face when seeking support.
