A frozen-food manufacturing company in Washington County could close before the end of the month and expects to lay off more than 200 employees, or about half of its staff, state records and court filings show.
Fourth Street Barbecue, Inc., headquartered in Charleroi, is one of the largest employers remaining in a borough that’s lost two factories in the last year alone — eliminating around 400 jobs. The company operates two facilities in Charleroi under the brand name Fourth Street Foods, where employees make and package frozen sandwiches, bowls and dinners for major retailers nationwide.
A total of 252 employees across both facilities will be laid off before Oct. 31 as the company scales back its operations, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice filed
