Christi Hays has been through everything in her tenure as Quaker Valley girls tennis coach.
And the 73-year-old Quakers matron isn’t playing on going anywhere soon.
Especially after winning her first girls title.
Sophomore Avery Allan took her match at No. 1 singles against Evelyn Marche and the Quakers’ No. 1 doubles tandem of Jane Lenhard and Kate Miller pulled out a three-set thriller 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, as top-seeded Quaker Valley won its seventh WPIAL championship all time and first since 2010. The Quakers pulled out a 3-2 squeaker against North Catholic in the WPIAL Class 2A team final Wednesday at Washington & Jefferson’s Janet Swanson Tennis Center.
“It’s huge. It means they can’t get rid of me for a while,” Hays said. “They have to stick with me.”
