JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - With just hours to go before he’s set to be executed for the 1993 rape and murder of a Tippah County 20-year-old, Charles Ray Crawford is again seeking a stay.
Crawford is slated to be executed by lethal injection at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, he filed an emergency motion for a stay of execution with the Mississippi Supreme Court, citing the state’s response to a motion he filed in U.S. Supreme Court.
The motions center around the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in McCoy v. Louisiana .
According to Crawford’s attorneys, the high court ruled that defendants have the right to decide whether to allow their trial attorneys to concede guilt on their behalf.
