PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Phoenix Zoo will reopen a couple of days later than expected after damage caused by Monday’s microburst forced it to keep its doors shut.
The microburst, which hit Tempe the hardest , uprooted more than a dozen trees, damaged sidewalks and infrastructure across the zoo. It also damaged staples of ZooLights, including the tunnel and the 50-foot-tall Lake Lights Tree.
While zoo officials anticipated reopening the zoo on Wednesday, they have decided to keep it closed an extra day as crews continue cleaning up debris. They estimated damages, including lost revenue, totaled $300,000.
