WYOMING, Mich. — After a lengthy investigation by the Michigan State Police (MSP), a man has been arrested on murder and drunk driving charges stemming from a fatal US-131 crash on Christmas Eve in 2023.

At about 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 24, 2023, Kathy Lee Hernandez was killed in a crash on southbound US-131 near 54th Street.

An MSP investigation, using DNA obtained from the scene of the crime, led to a warrant issued for Fernando Ocampo-Aguilar a few weeks ago, according to Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker.

On Tuesday, Ocampo-Aguilar was arraigned and charged with one count of second-degree murder, one count of operating while intoxicated, causing death, one count of operating with a license suspended, causing death, and one count of operating while intoxicated.
