BURLINGTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - According to the Burlington Walk/Bike Council, the bike lanes on North Avenue in Burlington's New North End will be physically protected by posts starting on Sunday.
North Avenue is the main road in the New North End neighborhood, running over four miles from Battery Park to Mayes Landing. According to the Council, its current bike lanes, which are only marked by paint, are not safe and comfortable for many residents, including children who might otherwise be able to commute to school by bike.
The Council is leading what they call a "demonstration project" which will last just over one week. From October 19 through 26, the bike lanes on North Avenue between Shore Road and Tracy Drive will be protected.
