BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Wednesday night, the Birmingham City Council is holding a town hall at A.H. Parker High School. This comes about a week after the city launched a survey to see if residents would support a new ordinance that would hold pet owners accountable when it comes to reducing the number of stray animals in the city’s 99 neighborhoods.
Birmingham City Council President Darrell O’Quinn said over the past two and a half years they’ve gotten collectively over 20,000 calls about animal control in regard to strays.
“In seven out of the nine council districts, animal related calls to 311 are the number one issue,” O’Quinn said.
Beginning at 6 p.m., the city council wants input from citizens in regard to updating city code when it comes to addressing the issue of stray animals
