BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — A new storybook from the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction is helping families make reading part of everyday life, starting from birth.

The Legendary Family Learning Guide: Building Literacy Skills is a combined storybook and parent guide featuring four characters who show families how to talk, read, play, and explore together. It’s designed for children from birth through kindergarten and helps parents build literacy skills through simple daily activities.

The book was created through a partnership between the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction and the agency MABU. It took about six months to complete and was funded by the Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant.

Families gathered at the North Dakota State Capitol for today’s event.
