SAC CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - Voters in Sac County, Iowa, will have on their ballots a $12.5 million bond for a new jail.

The current jail is over 85 years old, and Sac County officials say a new one is greatly needed. If the bond passes, it would be paid over the next 20 years with taxpayer money.

With the vote just a few weeks away, the Sac County Attorney has announced a possible deal to help pay for the jail if the bond passes.

Sac County Attorney Benjamin Smith says the Calhoun County Sheriff has committed to housing their county’s inmates in the new Sac County Jail, if it is built.
