NEW ORLEANS — This weekend, nearly 3,000 rowing teams will come from around the world to Boston.

It's the 60th anniversary of the Head Of The Charles Regatta.

And one of the teams going is local.

It's a team that just a year ago was completely unfamiliar with the sport.

Look closely at the women rowing on Bayou St. John or the Industrial Canal. You'll see newfound physical toughness and emotional fortitude.

“And I sort of dragged myself out and crawled in, and everybody jumped up and said, ‘Come on. Get on the erg. Get here!’ They really didn't even know me, and it just felt great,” remembers Suzette Doucet, 54, a breast cancer survivor who is a member of the Survivor Rowing Club.
