BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — The Bismarck City Commission approved a revised extraterritorial area (ETA) map. The map will now head to the Burleigh County Commission for consideration.
ETAs are a commonly used tool to allow cities to plan for future growth and urbanization. They also apply the city code and enforcement to residents who do not get to vote for city officials. The proposed map shrinks Bismarck's ETA.

"We worked to create a way for 95% of residents to move from the ETA to Burleigh County. However, Burleigh County’s leadership appears unwilling to meet us in that compromise.
