A ropeway will soon connect Sonprayag to the Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. The Government of India has assigned the ₹4,081 crore project to the Adani Group. Built 12,000 feet above sea level, the project will face challenging terrain and environmental conditions.

Currently, the trek from Sonprayag to Kedarnath spans 21 km, taking around 7–8 hours on foot. Once the ropeway is completed, the distance will reduce to 12.9 km, and the journey will take just 36 minutes.

The ropeway is expected to be operational by 2032.

Work will start by April 2026

Highway Logistics Management Ltd.’s Project Manager, Prashant Jain, said the alignment was surveyed three years ago. The Adani Group will now conduct its own survey, scheduled to begin in March–April 2026.
