SEMMES, Ala. (WKRG) — A giant tortoise named Joey has been missing from Lisa's Learning Farm for more than three weeks, and his disappearance has sparked attention across social media.
Joey is a 60-pound African spurred tortoise who lives at the farm in Semmes.
“We actually use him on the farm as a tool to teach the kids about an animal that you don’t get to see on a day-to-day basis,” RaeAnn Shoemaker, Linda's daughter and a farmer at Linda’s Learning Farm, said.
Joey went missing in late September.
“He was able to dig out of the fence and has been on the loose ever since,” said RaeAnn.
“This is the pen where we were housing Joey. You can tell here where he scraped the grass off, and he was able to push this wire up,” Joshua Shoemaker, Linda's son and farmer at Linda’s Learning Farm,
