HANNIBAL (WGEM) - Hannibal’s Central Park is currently getting some long awaited renovations.

The park began the makeover after the 4th of July celebration and is expected to be completed within the next month.

“Typically, our farmers’ market is here from April to October, but for now they’re at Kiwanis Park,” said Mary Lynne Richards with Hannibal Parks and Recreation. “But, they’ll be back here next year.”

The sidewalks, curbs, bandstand, and fountain will all be renovated, and while being mindful of the trees already in place.

“We really needed to update and fix the sidewalks, they were a trip hazard,” added Richards. “They were dangerous for everyone using them.”

While amenities will be brand new, it will still have its historic Hannibal charm.
