NEW YORK (PIX11) – The $16 billion Gateway Tunnel project, which would include a new rail tunnel between New York and New Jersey, could be terminated under President Donald Trump.
Trump made the announcement on Wednesday as the government shutdown continues. Democrats, including Sen. Chuck Schumer, are being blamed by Republicans for the shutdown as they fight to keep 1 million people insured by the Affordable Care Act.
“The project in New York, it’s billions and billions of dollars that Schumer has worked 20 years to get. It’s terminated,” Trump said.
The Trump administration blocked $18 billion in federal funding for the project and the Second Avenue Subway last week.
