People on Department for Work and Pensions could face "unprecedented surveillance" in the form of a new anti-fraud bill and powers. The Labour Party government is planning to hand DWP staff the power to snoop on bank accounts.
But charities are warning over the unprecedented measures, which have sparked panic among claimants. Under the Bill, three DWP benefits - which have the highest fraud rates - would be targeted.
It includes Pension Credit, ESA, or Employment and Support Allowance, and Universal Credit . Signs which could trigger a DWP bank account check are things like the amount of capital you hold, with UC claimants afforded a £16,000 threshold.
