BINGHAMTON, New York (WBNG) - New Yorkers have less than two weeks to make sure their voting information is correct, or they won’t be able to head to the polls.

Prospective voters must register to vote by Oct. 25, and if you’ve moved recently, you must update your address.

Though you won’t see candidates for president or governor on your ballot this year, that doesn’t mean your vote doesn’t matter. Officials told 12 News that, in fact, it means your choices hold a higher stake.

“It’s just as important because you’re voting for town officers or city or town offices or city offices,” said Stephen DeWitt, the Democratic Commissioner for the Tompkins County Board of Elections. “They set policy, they set your tax rate, and so you know, it’s a lot more control over what’s close to you.”
